Challenge
Dash cameras play a crucial role in driving safety. These devices continuously record video during driving, providing essential evidence for insurance claims and traffic accident investigations. Since dash cameras need to run continuously for long periods, video quality and stability are directly related to driving safety. This is particularly important for high-performance dash cameras, where stable and smooth recording is critical.
Customer Requirement
A dash camera manufacturer approached us with specific requirements for micro SD cards to maintain stable write speeds and reliability in high-performance environments. The specific requirements included:
- Minimum write speed: The minimum write speed during 72 hours of continuous recording at room temperature must not fall below 16 MB/s.
- Stability: No frame drops or video loss should occur during the recording process
Solution and Technology
To meet these requirements, we provided the SDT3R0 series micro SD cards, which utilize new firmware and improved Garbage Collection (GC) technology. The minimum write speed was stabilized at 16.2 MB/s, fully meeting the stability requirements.
The core function of GC technology is to automatically reclaim storage space to maintain system performance. However, during space reclamation, write speeds may temporarily be affected, leading to frame drops. To address this issue, we developed new firmware that evenly distributes write speeds, ensuring that the minimum write speed remains above 16 MB/s for 72 hours. This technology not only solves the performance degradation issues caused by GC but also improves overall recording stability and storage efficiency, fully meeting strict demands for stability and performance.
Application
The SDT3R0 series micro SD cards, with their enhanced GC technology, perfectly meet the high-performance and stability demands of dash cameras. The product offers a wide range of capacities from 32GB to 512GB and utilizes pSLC NAND Flash technology, enabling a Program/Erase cycle (P/E Cycle) of up to 10,000 times, significantly enhancing the card’s durability and stability.
Moreover, this micro SD card can operate within a wide temperature range of -25°C to +85°C, ensuring high-efficiency recording even under extreme conditions. These advantages greatly improve the overall performance and recording quality of dash cameras, providing the best technical support for driving safety and video recording reliability.
